Recap of UFC 259
Winners: Jan Blachowicz, hard to argue anyone had a better night than the man from Poland. He showcased a very technical and impressive performance over one of the newer stars in the game in Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. He cemented his status as Light Heavyweight champion with a well-rounded performance.
Amanda Nunes: She is what we thought she was the best female fighter to ever step foot inside of the octagon. She has elite power and elite grappling and you already know the outcome of the fight before hand, now we are just looking for a somewhat competent challenger, to make us think she could possibly lose.
Islam Makhachev: With Khabib in retirement you can tell he is the next coming of Khabib, with elite and suffocating wrestling and a better jiu jitsu game. He looks so much better than everyone else it’s scary to think of how good he is going to be.
Stock Fell: Hard to call professional fighters losers, but the stock of these fighters took a hit.
Megan Anderson: She was completely dominated and had no chance, unsure of where she goes from here in a division that doesn’t have a lot of competitors.
Petr Yan: Yan threw an illegal knee that ended the fight and cost him the championship. It was a dumb foul, easily preventable and he didn’t take the results in good fashion. He sounds kind of entitled as he talks about this fight. He cheated and lost the belt.
Aljamain Sterling: He became champion by an illegal knee and disqualification, in a fight that was looking like he was slowly starting to lose. In a rematch hard to see how he beats Yan.
Drew Dober: Dober had hype and was looking good, but he got absolutely dominated in the grappling department, a one-sided loss that killed his hype and momentum.
Israel Adesanya: The hype of Adesanya was measured last night, as he got beat by a bigger man that could simply overpower him. The super fight with Jon Jones is no longer appetizing, simply because Jones would manhandle him. 'Hard to see how they fight in the future, because Jones would easily beat him.
Overall, a great night of fights, fun and entertaining, to say the least.
