Biden's Stimulus Passes
The United States Senate passed a major stimulus bill worth $1.9 trillion this morning, after weeks of posturing and negotiating. The bill should be finished and signed by next week, once the House reconciles the bill and goes to President Biden for his signature. It’s a decent bill, with some major help on the way to the poor and working class in this country.
The benefits of the bill is that there will be $1400 checks, distributed to those making up to $75,000 and couples making $150,000. The benefit is per person in the household so it’s a significant investment in the American people. Unemployment benefits will be extended to $300 per week until September which a decent amount and should be helpful to many people. There is rental assistance, school assistance and state and local government aid which has been skimped upon for months by Republicans.
There are faults such as no $15 minimum wage, no $2000 checks and unemployment is a tide bit lower than what I would have put in the bill if I wrote it, but overall it’s a good bill that will help a lot of people. If I was a voting member, I would have tried to get the minimum wage and might have held my support to get it or at least move it up to $11 per hour which Joe Manchin was in favor of, but I don’t think I would have tanked the bill for that.
Overall considering no Republicans voted for this bill or supported a stimulus to the American people, I am glad Democrats were able to pass this bill.
